Sustainability pills - What is post-consumer recycled resin that forms PCR packaging?
Post-consumer resin is a pellet originating from plastics that have already been industrialized and reprocessed. It derives from household or commercial consumption packaging that has already expired its life cycle and was discarded. A major example are the mineral water bottles which, after consumption and recycling destination, can serve as raw material for PCR packaging.
PCR plastic meets a sustainable consumption principle, having sustainability and recyclability as its major characteristics. This means that PCR plastic originates from a recycled product that, after consumption, is used to create new materials, without losing its properties and quality.
The use of packaging made from post-consumer resin helps reduce the environmental impact caused by the consumption of plastic materials, encourages the selective collection and recycling, besides helping reduce the volume of solid waste going to landfills.
